From the Pastor

bryanDear Friends in Christ,

It's mid-July and summer break is half over.  Before long we'll be thinking of the school year, fall sports, autumn colors and the next round of life in the church.  As many of you are no doubt preparing for the upcoming season of life for you and your families, let me challenge you to make room in your schedules for church life.  It is our joy and privilege to offer various opportunities for ministry to our people.  The Lord Jesus Christ has commanded us to make disciples, which means we need teachers, students and other volunteers to get the job done!

To that end, Sunday, August 8 is an important day in the life of our church body.  On that day we will worship together, eat lunch, hear a congregational update, have games & activities for children and hold our annual ministry fair.  Please be sure to take the opportunity to visit the ministry fair tables so that you can plan both your participation and service in our ministries.  This event will take place right after worship.

A special treat for the women of our church is planned for the weekend of August 20-21.  On Friday evening, August 20, there will be a gathering for the ladies at a time & location TBA.  Mrs. Susan Hunt will address our women on the subject of Titus 2 - Generation to Generation.  I highly encourage women of all ages to attend.  This is a great event for moms & daughters!  I can say with great certainty and thanksgiving that Mrs. Hunt's writing and teaching ministry has made a significant impact on my home and do pray that she will be a blessing to our ladies as well.  She has written many books on the subjects of biblical womanhood and women's ministry in the church, however, she has also written some very fine children's books.  My ABC Bible Verses, Sammy and His Shepherd and Jesus in Genesis to name a few.  On Saturday, August 21, Mrs. Hunt will be addressing the women of First Presbytery as they hold the 103rd Annual Meeting of First Presbyterial.  She will speak several times during the course of the day and you will certainly want to make time to hear God's Word taught with meaningful application specifically for women.

Pray for our Middle School youth over the next days as they participate in daytime missions work around our city.  They have plans to meet various ministry needs in our community and grow together in fellowship and truth.

Over the weekend please prepare for the Lord's Supper.  We will worship together, consider a passage from Paul's letter to the Colossians and then celebrate the goodness & promises of Christ in the supper he has ordered for his church to keep until he comes again.  Read passages like 1 Corinthians 11:17-34 and Ephesians 2.  If you are preparing your children for worship, these passages and the Children's Catechism Q & A 137-143 are helpful!  Make plans to attend a Sunday School class on Sunday - we have a fine lineup of classes for all ages.

See you this next Lord's Day,

Bryan

Coming Soon: A CCC Resource Board
We are going to be putting up a new resource board in the hallway outside of the fellowship hall. Our intention is to support each other within our church community. We have many people with various skills and people who may be in need of their services. This will provide a means for us to let each other know about in-house skills and needs. Ideas: babysitting, items for sale or give away, rooms for rent or roommate needed, music or tutoring lessons, etc. If you have any questions or would like to submit something for the board, email, call, or visit Amy in the church office (288-2365 or amunson@cccarp.org) and include the following: Name, email, phone, and a short description of what you would like to have posted on the CCC Resource Board.

Confession of Faith
Apostles Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.  I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,  and born of the virgin Mary.  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell.  The third day He rose again from the dead.  He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.  From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.  I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Food For Thought

God will not turn away from doing you good. He will keep on doing good. He doesn't do good to His children sometimes and bad to them other times. He keeps on doing good and He never will stop doing good for ten thousand ages of ages. When things are going bad that does not mean God has stopped doing good. It means He is shifting things around to get them in place for more good, if you will go on loving Him.

- John Piper
